GARY DAVIES The one-time golden boy of Radio 1 has his feet firmly in the Ibiza sand these days, and his b+b brunch and beats party at Ushuaïa Beach Club on sundays has become one of the smash hits of the summer

Let’s kick off with the amazing B+B – Brunch and Beats event you are involved with down at Ushuaia Ibiza Beach Club on Sundays…

It’s a concept we came up with because we just love daytime parties. I’ve always liked the idea of having lunch with a really cool bunch of people, which before you know it turns into a great party. It’s super-relaxed – you can join us for lunch or just join for the party. Each time we try and arrange a special guest DJ; so far we’ve had Jean Claude Ades, Tom Novy and Nic Fanciulli.

The party really seems to have caught everyone’s attention – as you say, it’s like a house party on the sand! What have been some of your big tunes of the season?

I know, I can’t believe how many people are talking about it, and last Sunday’s was the best one yet as we sold all the tables! So many amazing tunes around at the moment – recent releases I’m loving are Solar Detroit by Maceo Plex, Sum by DkA, Jupiter Rising by Yousef/The Angel/Kydus, and the Catz ‘n Dogz mix of Evil Eyes, the new release from Roisin Murphy. As for big tunes this season, I think Acamar by Frankey and Sandrino is massive, as is Better For My Brain by Pele and Shawnecy. I’m also loving Woods by &ME and Big by Rene Amesz.

Where are some of the club nights and DJs you have enjoyed this summer away from B+B in Ibiza?

I absolutely love ANTS at Ushuaïa – they always have an incredible line-up of DJs, including Nic Fanciulli and Joris Voorn, who also have their own night La Familia, which is amazing too. Guy Gerber at Beachouse has been really special this year. One of my favourite events this year was when Sonica did a last-minute sunset party at Kumharas with Jose Rivas and Sasha – it was superb. It was the first time I’d been to Kumharas and it reminded me of how Café Del Mar used to be back in the day: rustic, charming, proper hippy-style. I can’t wait to go back again.

You are head of Good Groove Records in the UK, a brilliant music management and publishing company responsible for not only superstars such as Corinne Bailey Rae, but also emerging talent. Who are you excited to be working with at the moment?

Well, I’m really excited about Corinne’s new album, which is now finished. It’s By Daniel Prince Photograph by Fernando Valencia superb, I think – the best one yet. We will have an EP for the fans in November and then the album will come out early in 2016. And I love working with brand-new talent, as we did when we signed Corinne, and we have a new artist called Stealth who is attracting a lot of attention right now.

You appeared in the Sonica Radio caravan at Atzaro’s Urban in Ibiza event in August. This is a really cool event in the Ibiza summer calendar, right?

I was so excited to do my first show on Sonica – I love that station and listen continually, even in my car in London. The caravan is a cool idea; it looks great with all the branding and it can pop up anywhere on the island and start broadcasting. Igor Marijuan and myself had the honour of doing the first broadcast from it at Atzaro. The event was really cool but the caravan was really hot! I think it was one of the hottest days this summer, with no AC in the van.

And finally, what is the one song that always reminds you of Ibiza?

If I had to choose one, it would be Lil Louis’s French Kiss – it was so different to anything else at the time
