NIC FANCIULLI THE BRIT HEADLINES THE NEW DANCE OR DIE PARTY AT USHUAÏA IBIZA. A TRIBUTE TO MUSIC IN CAPITAL LETTERS, THERE’S SOMETHING FOR EVERYBODY, FROM CARL COX TO PACO OSUNA. YOU HAVE NO CHOICE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Dance or die? Come on now. Choose one...
I think I ́d choose to dance. At this party, we want people to come, dance and enjoy.

All jokes aside, there ́s a ton of talent at this party. What makes it so special?
At this party, I want to bring my friends and all of the different musical tastes of people that I admire together, to celebrate at what is probably my favorite venue in Ibiza. It ́s all about music. Working with Ushuaïa Ibiza, collaborating with all of these amazing sound and production people who have worked on awesome events on the island, and also having my friends deejay here...all of this creates that family-feel, that balearic vibe.

Tell us about the history of DANCE OR DIE. Where did the idea come from?
I was talking with Yann about different concepts and he came up with the name. It's a really direct name. Basically, we know we don ́t want a party where people are staring at their phones. We want them to dance and to have fun. The name is clear and encompasses everything we want to achieve.

What's the secret to a great party?
The people are the most important. They make the party. That's why I like Ibiza, that diversity that you get when you have people from all over the world in the same spot.

What artists changed your life?
When I was 15, I started listening to groups like Happy Mondays and The Stone Roses. Eventually I became a bit pickier and discovered Underworld and Daft Punk. After that, I came across Laurent Garnier. He made me realize that you don ́t have to play the same style of music all night; he switched from ambient to house to techno to drum 'n' bass. He made me want to become a DJ.

Apart from deejaying, you are an important producer and remixer. How do you balance this two fields?
You have to have a good team. Over the years, I’ve managed to find a team that I can trust. I have great management and agreatagent. As a DJ and performer,I count on Yann and his amazing team to enhance what I do. Over the years I’ve managed to establish a routine with everything; during the summer DJ’ing really takes centre stage, and I produce my music from October through to March.

Speaking of routines, which ones do you put into practice when you have a commitment with a club?
You have to be flexible. The people that come to listen to you perform are different and also the most important part of the party. They're the ones who pay to get in. The routine, thank God, is the diversity for me. I always try to adapt to every situation.

What are your favorite cities and clubs?
I’d say Tokyo is one of my favourite cities, Curitiba en Brazil too. Club-wise Hï is unbelievable, and I’ve always felt at home at Ushuaïa. The best part? You can go anywhere you’ve never been and there you can find the best parties.

You don ́t mind always being on the move?
I always say that they don't pay me to perform, but rather to travel (laughs).

When was the first time you came to Ibiza?
My mom brought me when I was five. I came back when I was 16 with a permission slip from my parents. I remember going to Space and Amnesia. That changed my life.

How has changed since it became one of your usual haunts?
There are people that might say that the island used to be better. But it used to be better because those people used to be young.

Are we headed down the right path?
It's no secret that electronic music is becoming more and more commercial. It has turned into culture pop. But as long as we enjoy it, it doesn't matter. I respect any type of music.
