LOVE AND ADRENA SON OF A WELL-KNOWN MUSICAL EXPERIMENT AND EDUCATED IN CLASSICAL MUSIC, HE HAS ENCAPSULATED ALL OF THIS KNOWLEDGE INTO AN UNMISTAKABLE, NEXT-GENERATION GERMAN TECHNO RECORD. FROM BREMEN TO THE REST OF THE WORLD, STEPHAN BODZIN.

What is the first musical experience you remember?
Being in front of an enoooooormous synthesizer, a piece of furniture on the wall that my dad had. Obviously it wasn't that big; I was little, barely five years old. It was an Arp2600 modular. Now I see it and it isn ́t that big. But it ́s still amazing to me.

When and what was your transition from classical music to electronic like, if there was such a thing?
Honestly there wasn't one, like you suspected. When I was 20-something, I started to mix all of that background that I had up until that moment: classic, jazz, techno, hip-hop and a lot of electro. I ́m still really into all of those genres, but my favorite platform, and where I express myself best, we could say is techno. Actually, better put: electronic dance music.

How do you write your music? Do you have a method?
No. I start at some point and I never know what I ́m going to do until I figure out a certain key. Well, actually...yes. I work mostly from some melody or some harmonious element, and from there I add beats.

What are the machines – I mean instruments – that you couldn ́t live without?
The Moog sub37, obviously. It is still the best and most powerful monophonic synthesizer ever created in my opinion. The Oberheim SEM is also essential for what I do.

Now the same questions, but about records.
I can live without records, but not without instruments.

How is the new German techno different from the old- school German techno?
I don ́t understand the questions [responds sarcastically].

Understood, there isn ́t a specific difference. Where would you prefer to perform: in clubs or open-air festivals? What are the perfect conditions for a great show?
I adore both, like all of my colleagues. It ́s totally different from each point of view. Festivals generate more adrenaline, clubs more love. To put it simply.

What are your favorite clubs around the world? Any type of stage counts.
Another difficult question. I ́ve performed at so many absolutely incredible festivals and clubs throughout my career that it ́s really difficult for me to answer. So I won ́t.

What feeling does Ibiza give you? Have you had awesome life and musical experiences on the island?
Ibiza gives me good vibes. I mean – really, really good vibes. Returning this year for another season at Afterlife is something I ́m really excited about. And the opening event, Odyssey, at Ushuaïa and Hï Ibiza is going to be amazing, I hope. In the past, I ́ve stayed a few weeks more on the island to enjoy the Balear life with my family and friends. I ́ve discovered many parts of Ibiza and I ́ve experienced a lot of awesome moments outside of club life. Ibiza always puts a smile on my face, from the second I see the island from the airplane window until the season ends. I ́m so pumped to come back. Seriously!
