SOLARDO BOYS. DOING IT THEIR WAY.

Dan Prince August 2018 MUSIC Read in PDF format N19/2018
SOLARDO WE DIVE INTO THE MAYHEM OF TUESDAYS AT HÏ IBIZA TO SEE HOW THE HOUSE MUSIC DUO ARE ENJOYING THEIR RESIDENCY...AND ASK THEM, JUST WHAT THE HELL ARE THE SHIRTS ALL ABOUT?!?

How hands on are you with helping to book the guests for your night?

Very hands on, like we are with everything. Every event that we organise, we go through and book every single guest. People we are feeling in that moment in time, people who have had good releases on our label, upcoming artists and established artists...

What were your first impressions of Hï Ibiza last year and how has it improved this summer?

Obviously the first impressions of when we played Hï was that it was quite a nice square space. Hï has gone
to town on the production, it’s super clean and the lighting system is wicked. We were very happy to have an association with Hï and to have played in the first year of what we feel is going to be one of the super clubs on the island (if it isn’t already) is amazing. I think in the first year of anything, you find out what works, what doesn’t and you hone in on that. They’ve come back in 2018 and have got events that cover music tastes across the board; from the likes of Black Coffee to Armin Van Buuren, to ones that cater to more of the VIP crowd. So, I think it’s just evolving as a club, as you have to do with everything. You’ve got to move with the times and keep on top of your game and work with what’s hot.

Let’s talk about your ‘colourful’ clothes...

We didn’t want to be the people that wore black shorts, black socks, black underwear, black shoes, black jeans and black hats. That’s not really us as an act. We’re northerners, we’re quite open. We like to think of ourselves as fun and outgoing people. We wanted that
to reflect in our image and the Solardo brand. We never wanted to fit in with a certain crowd, we wanted to do our own thing and create our own style from every single element.

You never plan your sets; you always want to see how the crowd are feeling...

Yeah, I think especially with having your own record label, you always have to test new stuff and new sounds because that’s how you find what a hit record is. When we get demos sent to Sola that we might think is an absolute banger in our own opinion, we play it to a festival audience of 5000 people and assess if we get the reaction we wanted. If we don’t, we have to re-evaluate, it’s about trial and error. And you’re right, we don’t really plan our sets, we’ll just compile a playlist of the music we’re playing because we try not to play everything upfront. If you’ve got a room of 1000 people, you’ve got to be able
to cater to different people in the room. You might have to play stuff with a bit more vocal, something that is a
bit more disco or something that is hard techno. Our philosophy is you’ve got to cater to every single person in the room, and not be selfish and one track minded.

SOLARDO ARE RESIDENTS IN THE CLUB ROOM AT HÏ IBIZA EVERY TUESDAY UNTIL 25 SEPTEMBER.
