MICHEL SCHILLING The Director of Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel shares his secrets about what it’s like to be in charge of this unique place.

What grabbed your attention about the world of Ushuaïa before joining the project?
No doubt what really grabbed my at- tention before joining Ushuaïa was the company’s incredible business vision combined with the courage they’ve demonstrated by launching a product like Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel. The Matutes family and Yann Pissenem are commit- ted to developing a brand that combines a 5-star Hotel, the best live electronic music shows in the world, and a first-rate gastronomic offer, making Ushuaïa the leading hotel + club in the world! What I find most motivating these days is working hard to sustain that success and ensure that Ushuaïa continues to be a world leader, and, above all, to make sure that the entire Ushuaïa family is proud to be part of it and to work for a brand that is growing every day. That is my greatest challenge and the best legacy I could possibly leave behind...

What do new customers learn when they stay in this type of hotel?

That Ushuaïa is an EXPERIENCE from the very first day you step in the Hotel. Having the opportunity to see the best DJs in the world just a few feet away from your room, while enjoying personalized VIP service and sampling the best cuisine in Ibiza... all in the same place... that’s quite a privilege.

Please describe one incomparable experience that only Ushuaïa Ibiza

One incomparable experience? A whole day at Ushuaïa: starting with our Unexpected Breakfast. Then lounging on a Balinese bed by the poolside at Ushuaïa Tower while our XPA girls give you a massage. At lunch time, Iker, our chef at The Oyster & Caviar Bar, will delight you with a fantastic lobster rice. Then after

a short siesta, it’s time to get dressed up and hop over to Ushuaïa Club to experience the best electronic music gigs in the world. Of course, before the event is over, I suggest you stop by Montauk Steakhouse Ibiza to sample the wonderful freshly made steak tartar. The cherry on the cake for me would be enjoying a cocktail in the lounge at the Up Ibiza Sky Society, located on the rooftop of Ushuaïa Tower... doesn’t sound too bad, does it?

What is the ideal speed for you in your private life? And what’s your secret to having your private life over the summer?
Speed in the summertime? 2,000 revs per minute!!! There’s no time to stop... that’s the pace in Ibiza during the season.? What is your idea of total relaxation? Well, there are several plans that might do: enjoying a relaxing massage at our XPA Beauty Center, sampling our won- derful Unexpected Breakfast brunch, going to Es Vedrá to see the sunset... Ibiza is a magical island... there’s so much to see. My favorite time of year to enjoy it is in the fall.

Can you tell us about your proudest moment in life?

In my personal life there are many, professionally, it is undoubtedly the moment I joined the Ushuaïa Family.

As I was saying earlier, it’s quite a pro fessional challenge, and one of the things I’m proudest of is that I’m still working for the brand, and that I have the pleasure of working with such a highly motivated team and learning from them every day.

What is the nicest comment you’ve ever gotten from a customer at the hotel? When they come back because they feel at home... like family. Ushuaïa has many customers who are FANS, it’s Brand- Love, we’re one of those rare brands that generate a feeling of belonging... people wait all year for the Hotel to open so they can go back “home” and enjoy a 100% Ushuaïa Experience... this, for us, is undoubtedly the way to show appreciation.

Outside Ushuaïa, what places would you pick to have breakfast, lunch and dinner?

I really like this little restaurant in the center of Ibiza called Locals Only, the homemade pasta is exceptional and they really treat you like family. Breakfast at Sa Calma, with wonderful views of Dalt Vila, is priceless. For something a little more upscale, I’d recommend Zela; it’s the best sushi on the island... there are so many places, it’s really best to just come to Ibiza and enjoy it from start to finish...
