HIERBAS IBICENCAS DID YOU KNOW THAT IBIZA’S MOST PRODUCT WAS BORN IN FORMENTERA?

Since its creation in 1880, Familia Marí Mayans’ Hierbas Ibicencas liqueur has used the same ingredients and artesinal production process. Except for a few slight variations and adaptations to modern times, the processes the company follows are an essential part of the flavor that characterizes this product, and they still rely on the same methods used by the founder and creator of the recipe, Juan Marí Mayans, over a hundred years ago. Interestingly, and despite having become an icon of Ibiza, Hierbas Ibicencas were actually created in Formentera, where the founder of the company was originally from. He moved to Ibiza in order to streamline logistics, and, to this day, the company continues to produce 100% of the company’s products in Ibiza. This is how Hierbas Ibicencas, Familia Marí Mayans’ star product, became associated with the larger Pitiusa island. Like all great recipes, the recipe for Familia Marí Mayans’ products is based on a unique secret formula, as are the liqueurs they produce. In order to preserve its flavor, which has become a hallmark of the island of Ibiza recognized by most of its consumers, the ingredients are jealously guarded so that the essence of the islands is distilled in every glass. To further consolidate their Ibizan identity, Familia Marí Mayans have patented their own bottles designed to look like an Ibizan peasant woman in every possible format. The bottle has become the company’s hallmark and makes easy to recognize anywhere in the world. Hierbas Ibicenca’s character and flavor are produced 100% in Ibiza.
