DISNEY PIXAR ART THE ART COLLECTION THAT INSPIRED DISNEY PIXAR’S “COCO” IS COMING TO USHUAÏA IBIZA BEACH HOTEL. THE COLLECTION PRESENTS THE ANIMALS AND MYSTICAL BEINGS OF THE ZAPOTEC CULTURE.

Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel is bringing the art collection that inspired Disney Pixar’s Coco, winner of the 2018 Oscar for Best Animated Film, to the island. The exhibition composed of 17 pieces from the workshop of Jacobo and María Angeles in Oaxaca, Mexico will be on display at the hotel from May through early September.

The show is coming to Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel thanks to the El Agave y Nosotros, a foundation organized by artisans and artists from Oaxaca whose mission is to showcase the region’s beauty and traditions through clay pieces, jewelry, textiles and paintings, among others. The collection, inspired by Zapotec culture, features copal wood-carved pieces known as alebrijes, decorated with pre-Hispan- ic motifs using mineral and acrylic pigments. Guests and visitors will have a chance to admire the beauty of these Mexican handicrafts in a collection of figures representing various animals from the Zapotec calendar, as well as the silhouettes of part animal, part human creatures, used as personal amulets among people in this culture depending on the day, month and year of birth. These carvings of chamaeleons, iguanas, jag- uars, snails and turtles from the workshop run by Jacobo and María Ángeles in the city of San Martín, Oaxaca, in southern Mexico, inspired the Disney Pixar team to create the movie Coco. The beautiful copal wood pieces on display at Ush- uaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel recall the colorful magical beings that appear in the movie.
