Indo Yoga Board

Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP) Yoga may have been a popular fitness trend in 2013, but this year you won’t have to get into the water to get the same kind of workout. The Indo Yoga board, developed by Hunter Joslin, is a 6-foot-long board on four rockers that provides the same instability as SUP Yoga, requiring you to engage your muscles even more than traditional yoga in order to keep your balance. With classes already on the East Coast, Indo Yoga Board is making its debut in Los Angeles this month with a class at Yoga Loft at Manhattan Beach, or you can purchase the board for home use. SurfSet Boards are slightly different than Indo Yoga Boards but the concept is the same. This is going to literally to pop up everywhere pretty soon because it’s super effective for yoga off the water and not like the SUP boards which can be really uncomfortable.

Virtual Classes Online

Group fitness classes and personal trainers are nothing new, but in today’s technology- obsessed world, you can do it virtually, either at the gym or in the privacy of your own home. Live-skype training is available from many instructors, like Mary Helen Bowers, who trained Natalie Portman for her role in ‘Black Swan’ and also trains many Victoria Secret models. Bowers, who is based in New York, offers ballet beautiful. com virtual group training or personal instruction. There are many types of virtual classes available, but you can also get virtual personalised fitness routines. Maria Bullock, online trainer states, ‘After speaking with you via email or phone, qualified personal trainers customise a workout program for you based on your individual goals and level because technology has made the world a much smaller place, trainers give plenty of motivation via emails, texts and phone calls to keep you on track.’ Bullock affirms these virtual instructors are particularly good for people who need the flexibility of when they can do the class. She also says many of the trainers keep the cost to a minimum and if you don’t like the class, you can just turn it off. Saves time and money and you can do it at home where we all seem to be spending and saving more time. Great for those not needing human contact to be motivated, not so great for those with lack of discipline.

Snorkelling Meditation Classes

Anything you want to achieve in the life requires deep concentration. You can achieve anything if you focus attention on your goal. So much of our energy is wasted with poor concentration it’s really surprising to see. In highly successful, calm people they are super concentrated and usually get what they focus on with a tranquil sense of clarity. The energy is saved by not being distracted or jumping from thought to thought ridding the body of precious energy. So they achieve a lot with little effort. Have you ever heard your breath under water with a snorkel on, it’s the ultimate ujayi sounding breath from yoga and aids concentration in the mind, which is essentially meditation. What better way is there to connect with nature and mediate than gliding or floating in the sea, going into a deep meditation assisted by the louder than normal sound of your own breath. It is a useful link for people to learn meditation on the land and to provide breath awareness, which many people struggle to resonate with. It’s a really good way for beginners to feel the breath and leads to deep embryonic meditations that can release anxiety and depression. Free diving has also been known to assist meditation practice increasing concentration and awareness. Try www.formenterayoga. com for 2015.

Aerial yoga

This has been around a few years now but it’s becoming more accessible to the larger market because of its anti gravitational effects on the human organs. Its easier to enjoy inversions here than in a regular class so look forward to aerial yoga becoming a regular in homes as well as in fitness centers. It’s a fun experience too so it doesn’t feel like exercise, as it’s a little like being in gym class at school. Fun for couples and takes the seriousness out of yoga.
