LEDS GO TO THE MUSEUM JENNY HOLZEN BRINGS TO IBIZA THE LED ART IN AN ICONIC EXHIBITION

If the medium was the message for Marshall McLuhan, the message is the medium for Jenny Holze. In fact the medium and message actually go hand in hand for the world-renowned conceptual artist, thanks to the use of LED lights on illuminated backdrops where phrases become seared into your retina (and heart). The Ohiobased artist has previously used her own words and even her own blood and skin in some of her more controversial and risky works. Where women die I am completely alert referenced the Bosnian war while the Laments series was exhibited on 13 sarcophagi with reference to motherhood, rape and pain through different victims. These days Holzer generally uses texts by others, but still makes them her own. LEDs are still used but also stone, granite, hard and pure elements that will last beyond our mortal memory. The exhibition, in collaboration with Lune Rouge and Art Projects Ibiza, brings together pieces from the Truisms, Inflammatory Essays and Survival series, which include some of her most iconic works; check the stools and benches fashioned from blue bahia granite and green iridescent labradorite. Holzer comes to Ibiza for the first time with a specific motive, a creation that will use “raw materials from the Ibiza countryside and its coast, with a collection of poems and verses from the cliffs, monumental rocks and rocky riverbeds.”
